A recent survey by UCLA's Higher Education Research Institute http://www.homepages.indiana.edu/013103/text/rankings.html found that high school students are taking very seriously the information delivered via Web when considering potential colleges and universities. Web information, in fact, is helping to guide enrolled students as they make additional decisions about possible majors and careers.
Meet Tom Kenyon, coordinator of Exploratory Student Resources at the University Division, IU Bloomington. He is the recipient of the prestigious 2002 Publication Award from the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) for his conception of the “Majors & Careers Series” Web site, funded by an IU Lilly Retention Grant. Plans for the Web site were begun in 1994 to provide an online majors advisory tool for IU academic advisers. http://homepages.indiana.edu/120800/text/SLIS.html
Kenyon currently is serving as chair of the National Commission on Advising
Undecided/Exploratory Students through 2004, an elected position
of the NACADA membership. NACADA has 14 commissions in areas that
include adviser training and development; multicultural advising;
technology in advising; and advising undecided/exploratory students.
At the autumn NACADA conference, Kenyon gave a pre-conference presentation:
“Choosing Your Major: From Frustrated and Overwhelmed to Making
a Good Decision.” He also made two NACADA Commission presentations
at the Salt Lake City event.
