Local artists have decorated more than 40 globes
to be auctioned off at this year’s Janus Ball, a fund-raiser for
the Herron School of Art in Indianapolis.
The 14th annual event will be at the Indiana Roof
Ballroom in Indianapolis Saturday, March 16.
Artists contributing their work for the silent
auction include three Herron alumni: Willie Faust, known for his
work on the Absolut brand vodka ads; Matt Berg, whose sculpture,
Bear, sits on the Indianapolis’ Washington Street Bridge
in White River Park; and Robert Berkshire, a former Herron professor
and well-known local painter. Valerie Eickmeier, dean of the school,
also has contributed a work.
One of the globes (pictured on this page) is titled
Peas on Earth and artist Jan Royce, a part-time Herron teacher,
has decorated her world view entirely with peas and beans. Also
pictured here is Faust’s untitled work, which acknowledges the global
impact of the Sept. 11 attacks in New York City. Ed Manetta, a fine
arts professor at Herron, is the artist of the globe with inlays.
