| The IU African American Arts Institute in Bloomington produces a variety of programs honoring and preserving the rich cultural heritage of African Americans. The institute features three performing groups which tour the region—the African American Choral Ensemble, which performs spirituals, folk music, and traditional and contemporary spirituals; the African American Dance Company, which preserves and promotes various dance styles of the African Diaspora; and the IU Soul Review, which specializes in urban black popular music. The IU Soul Revue is the oldest of the groups, having been founded in 1971. All three groups from the African American Arts Institute will perform on April 6 at 8 p.m. in the Buskirk-Chumley Theater in Bloomington.
