IU Kokomo Art Gallery lectures on art therapy, American oil painting

The IU Kokomo Art Gallery is hosting Liza Hyatt who will give a presentation titled “Dreams of a Laundry Guru” Thursday (April 4) at 7 p.m. at Kresge Auditorium.

Hyatt is a registered art therapist and a licensed mental health counselor who is employed at the Julian Center, a shelter for battered women and children in Indianapolis, and also runs her own private practice. The presentation will include visual images of her artwork mingled with readings of her poetry and will focus on personal dream material. Some samples of her artwork will also be available for viewing. She will also discuss how to use imagination, dreams and creativity as healing.

A second lecture will be held in conjunction with the current exhibition “From Sea to Shining Sea: An Exhibition of Oil Paintings from Across America,” by artist Douglas David. He will hold a casual discussion of painting “the concept” in the gallery on Sunday, April 7, at 3 p.m. using specific examples of study photographs and paintings to illustrate his process from conception to completion. All gallery lectures are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Minda Douglas at 765-455-9523.
