'Glen Park' memories will strengthen ties

A group of 25 IU Northwest students are currently working on a service project entitled "Glen Park Stories."The students are interviewing people who live or work in the Glen Park area of Gary and will gather the work into a book about Glen Park.

The goal of the project is to strengthen the sense of shared community between the Glen Park neighborhood and the IU Northwest campus, to celebrate the many and varied voices of Glen Park, and to give students experience in writing for a real audience with a real purpose. The interviews have been conducted at the Kennedy Branch of the Gary Public Library on Broadway Avenue.

At the conclusion of the project, a reception will be held in honor of the participants and students who made the project come alive. The reception is scheduled for Friday, (April 19), from noon to 2 p.m. in the Savannah Center Lobby on campus. At that time, presentations by the participants and students will take place, along with the distribution of the book. The event is free and open to the campus and community.
