Three IU Bloomington chemistry professors received major professional honors during spring semester.
Gary Hieftje, Distinguished Professor, was the recipient of the 2004 New York Section of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy Gold Medal Award. The Eastern Analytical Symposium (EAS) presents awards to scientists who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the areas of magnetic resonance, near infrared spectroscopy, chemo-metrics and separation science. Hieftje is also the recipient of the 2004 IUB Distinguished Faculty Research Lecturer Award, jointly administered by the offices of the Vice President for Research and of the Chancellor. Hieftje will present a public lecture on campus next spring.
Analytical chemist Stephen Jacobson received the 2004 Federal Laboratory Consortium Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer. The award recognizes those who have accomplished outstanding work in the process of transferring technology developed in a federal laboratory to the commercial workplace.
The California Separation Science Society (CaSSS) chose Milos Novotny, Distinguished Professor, to receive the 2004 CaSSS Award for Distinguished Contributions in Separation Science. Novotny was selected based on outstanding contributions to the development of new chromatographic techniques and application of microscale separations to problems of biological significance.
