Groundbreaking for the $55.7
million research building to house researchers in chemistry,
biology, psychology and physics on the IU Bloomington campus
took place June 3. To be known as Simon Hall, the multidisciplinary
science facility will be "a unifying hub for fundamental
research in sciences," said Kumble Subbaswamy (above),
dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Construction is
expected to be completed in 2007.
There’s nothing
to do in the summer
Except for concerts, workshops,
camps, art exhibitions and more on every campus across the
state. Don’t miss the motorcycle-inspired art at the
IU
Kokomo Art Gallery (through July 16); an arts exploration
day for adults at IPFW (July 14); the Summer Music Festival in Bloomington that begins tonight with
the Penderecki Quartet; the annual Jazz
in July concert series at the IUB Art Museum; and the
USA International Harp Competition that begins July 1.

Bloomington is the newest IU community
to open a business incubator; its focus will be the life sciences
and information technology.
Peter Friedericks of Dar es Salaam,
Tanzania, is one of the recent graduates of IU High School,
a diploma program that students complete at their computer
terminals. He will soon be a member of the IU Class of 2008,
when he begins classes on the Bloomington campus this fall.

Hunt, who served as first director of the campus from
1945-1956 has died, but his legacy continues on the north
central Indiana campus. Kirk
White, director of the Hoosiers for Higher Education,
will soon be deployed to Afghanistan with the National Guard,
and J T. Forbes, a former
IU trustee and AVP, is returning to Bloomington to head the
university's state relations effort in the newly created Office
of Government Relations. At IUPUI, Robert
White is the new dean of liberal arts.
