IU Kokomo launches 60th anniversary celebration with 60 artworks
By Mary Ellen Stephenson

Artwork for sale in the 60th Anniversary Exhibition will include Colorado Falls (at left), a watercolor by Rena Brouwer, and Ministry of a Boozehound, blown glass series by David Schnuckle.

The IU Kokomo Art Gallery will start its 10th year of operation with a bow to the campus' 60 years. Running Aug. 26-Sept. 20, the IU Kokomo 60th Anniversary Exhibition is planned as a display of 60 original works donated by regional professional artists. The works will be sold for $100 each; proceeds will benefit the gallery.

Works for sale will include paintings, drawings, handmade papers, prints, ceramics and sculptures. Participating artists have had works displayed at IU Kokomo previously in solo or group shows, "Spotlight Window" displays or in the biennial Regional Exhibition. Most live within a 70-mile radius of Kokomo, said Minda Douglas, former gallery director. "They are artists who have gained something from the IU Kokomo Gallery being here. Their works would normally sell for much more than $100."

Several Kokomo artists are represented in the exhibition, including Glenna Pleasant, who paints in watercolors; David Schnuckle, blown glass; Jerry Costello, acrylics and digital prints; and Richard Weber, ceramics.

Sales will begin Aug. 26. An invitation-only preview party will be followed by a public reception from 5:30-7 p.m. All works will remain on display through Sept. 20.
