Indiana University staff and faculty on the Bloomington and Indianapolis campuses will have an opportunity to make suggestions and ask questions about the previously announced review of non-academic administrative serv
ices at two forums scheduled Wednesday, October 25.
The time and location for the IU Bloomington forum will be 11 a.m.-noon in Whittenberger Auditorium, Indiana Memorial Union. At IUPUI, the forum is scheduled for 4 p.m.-5 pm in Lecture Hall 102.
Administrative services being performed by university administration and the Bloomington and IUPUI campuses are the current focus of the review process, although it may be appropriate to extend the review to other campuses at a later time.
The initial forums were announced by Judith G. Palmer, IU vice president and chief financial officer, who was appointed by IU President Myles Brand to chair the task force overseeing the review. According to Palmer, Arthur Andersen Higher Education Consul
ting Practice has been selected as the consultant for the review, and representatives of the consultant project team will attend both forums to outline the work plan for the review, answer questions, and receive comments and ideas from those in attendance
.
The review of non-academic administrative services was announced last spring by the IU president. Brand outlined in his charge to the task force that teaching and learning, research and professional service are the primary missions of the institution, but
that many non-academic administrative services are required to sustain these academic missions.
The review is aimed at determining if there are ways to improve the quality and efficiency of administrative services by taking full advantage of the critical mass of both people and processes located on the campuses and within university administration.
Any net cost savings resulting from this review and implementation of the recommendations will be reinvested in the academic missions of the university.
In addition to campus forums, Palmer said that a new Web site will contain information as the review progresses at:
http://www.indiana.edu/admreview/
Updates also will be published in future issues of IU Home Pages.
