To celebrate the IU Class of 2009's accomplishments and aspirations, IU Home Pages spoke with graduates from all eight campuses, plus two at IUPUC, about their college experiences and what they will do now that they have their degrees. We think they convey the spirit of the 16,901 graduates (now alumni) who received their diplomas earlier this month on IU campuses statewide.
We talked with Yun William Yu from IU Bloomington; Fred Barnes from IU Kokomo; Shanlia and Yasir Bhatty from IUPUC; Kimberly Ross from the IU School of Dentistry, IUPUI; April DeLaPaz from IU South Bend; Corey White from IU East; Beth Keller from IPFW; Anthony Timmons from IU Northwest and three generations of women in one family who graduated together — Loretta Rife, Trezenda Moran and Kristi Goodwin from IU Southeast.

Headliners
Through its contribution to human capital in Indiana, along with spending associated with its core missions of education and research, the civic engagement of its students, faculty and staff, and its campuses' cultural offerings, Indiana University makes a major impact on Indiana's economic health, according to a new study.
Research
Did luminous galaxies begin forming shortly after the Big Bang 13 billion years ago or are galaxies such as the Milky Way cosmologically much younger?
Technology
ANGEL Learning, a software provider created from technology developed nearly a decade ago by IU faculty, has been purchased for $100 million, making it the greatest success to date for an IU startup company.
Outreach
IU's School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation has a long history of engagement in China; now, the school is assisting Chinese President Hu Jintao with a plan to provide daily physical activity for the country's 270 million schoolchildren. HPER'S associate dean anticipates some knowledge transfer back home to Indiana, the state that ranks 50th in the amount of funding for public health.

Last month, IU President Michael McRobbie activated the University Emergency Preparedness Committee and directed that all IU campuses begin taking precautions to prevent or limit the spread of influenza.
Arts & Humanities
The collegiate premiere of a Broadway hit, orchestral and chamber music — more than 50 performances — are in store June 21-Aug. 11 on the Bloomington campus. Many are free.
Events
Instead of the expense of a formal chancellor's installation ceremony, IU East's Nasser Paydar is launching a campus beautification initiative that will include a sculpture garden with works from student, faculty and regional artists. Hear about it at a reception June 16.
