Fifth annual Civic Engagement Showcase at IUPUI April 7

The IUPUI Center for Service and Learning will host the second annual Showcase on Civic Engagement Friday, April 7, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the University Place Hotel Ballroom, 850 W. Michigan St., Indianapolis.

The showcase will feature the 2008 Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Civic Engagement recipients, James Brown, professor and executive aAssociate dean of the IU School of Journalism, and Keith Burke,principal of George Washington Community School, as well as the presentation of the William M. Plater Civic Engagement Medallion.

In credence with IUPUI's mission, the William M. Plater Civic Engagement Medallion has been established to distinguish students who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to their communities during their undergraduate years, while honoring IUPUI's William Plater, executive vice chancellor and dean of the faculties, a strong advocate of civic engagement during his career.

Thes s howcase will give the audience an opportunity to learn more about departmental and interdepartmental approaches to civic engagement, followed by a formal program at approximately 5 p.m. At the conclusion of that ceremony, there will also be a reception for the Plater Medallion recipients and their families. Attendance is open to the public.
