IPFW

Carl Drummond has been appointed the new dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Currently IPFW's associate vice chancellor for research and external support, Drummond will assume his new duties July 1. IPFW's College of Arts and Sciences is the largest of the schools and colleges that make up IPFW. It is comprised of 15 academic departments and 10 additional programs.

Sarah Bersch, student worker in the Financial Aid Office, is IPFW's 2009 Student Employee of the Year. She was one of 14 students nominated by their supervisors for this year's award. The other nominees were Denise Hall, Mastodon Advising Center; Timothy Gulley, Continuing Studies; Nenna Ezelio, Mastodon Advising Center; Jason Ward, International Student Services; Katie Stube, Admissions; Erin Moehring, Helmke Library; Alicia Johnson, Diversity and Multicultural Affairs; Peach Sundquist, Geosciences; Courtnee McMillen, Walb Union-Special Events; Brandon Speith, Division of Continuing Studies; Shalini Agarwal, Doermer School of Business; Elizabeth Keller, the Writing Center; and Marat Kurbanov, University Relations. Academic adviser Alison Hoff has been elected chair of the Member Career Services Committee of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). Hoff will serve as chair from October 2009 to October 2011. She will be responsible for chairing the standing committee that helps facilitate career-related services and recommends effective methods for career development for NACADA members who promote and support quality academic advising in institutions of higher education to enhance the educational development of students. It provides a forum for discussion, debate and the exchange of ideas pertaining to academic advising through numerous activities and publications. NACADA also serves as an advocate for effective academic advising by providing a consultants bureau, awards program, and funding for research related to academic advising.

Chad Nicholson, assistant professor of music and director of instrumental studies, will sign copies of his book, Great Music for Wind Band: A Guide to the Top 100 Works in Grades IV, V, VI (Meredith Books) on Wednesday, June 3, at Mynett Music Company, 3710 Hobson Rd., Fort Wayne between 5-7 p.m.
